The Toronto Blue Jays will host the Texas Rangers at Rogers Centre on Saturday in the second game of a three-game weekend series. First pitch flies at 3:07 PM ET in this AL battle, which features a pair of teams trending in opposite directions.

Despite sitting in the basement of the AL East, the Blue Jays enter as -145 moneyline favorites. The Rangers are +123 underdogs as they look to get back on track after having their five-game win streak snapped last night. Oddsmakers have set the over/under at 8.5 runs for this clash.

Let’s dive into our Rangers vs Jays prediction for Saturday, as we analyze the odds and starting pitchers matchup.

Rangers vs Blue Jays Prediction Saturday

If you wrote off the Rangers after last night’s loss, you might want to think again. Sure, Toronto’s ninth-inning rally was impressive, but let’s not forget Texas had won five straight prior to that setback.

The Rangers have been one of the best teams in baseball over the past few weeks, going 7-3 in their last 10 to pull within striking distance of the Astros in the AL West.

The Blue Jays, meanwhile, have been treading water for most of the season and sit dead last in the loaded AL East. They’ve alternated wins and losses over their last six contests and are just 4-6 in their last 10.

Saturday’s pitching matchup is a wash for me. Kevin Gausman takes the hill for the Jays, looking to improve upon his disappointing 8-8 record and 4.55 ERA. He’ll be opposed by Rangers righty Michael Lorenzen, who sports a 5-5 mark with a 3.53 ERA.

Both starters have had their moments this season, but neither one really moves the needle. Gausman has allowed two earned runs or less in two of his last three starts, while Lorenzen has achieved that same feat in three of his last five. In other words, it’s a coin flip.

When I look at this game from a betting perspective, I can’t help but think the Rangers are being undervalued. Sure, they lost last night, but this is still a team with serious playoff aspirations.

The Blue Jays, on the other hand, are just playing out the string at this point. I’m not convinced their win on Friday is going to suddenly turn their season around.

Give me the motivated Rangers as short road underdogs in this spot. Texas moneyline (+123) is the move.

After losing last night, the Rangers find themselves as +123 moneyline underdogs for Saturday’s tilt. If you’re willing to back Texas on the comeback, you can snag a payout of $223 on a $100 wager.

The Blue Jays are laying -145 as the home chalk, meaning you’ll need to risk $145 to win $100. Not the most appetizing price in my opinion. The Jays are currently at the bottom of the World Series odds.

As for the run line, Toronto is tasked with covering the -1.5 run spread, but are rewarded with plus-money odds of +165. If you think the Rangers can keep it close, but aren’t quite ready to pull the trigger on the upset, their +1.5 run line comes with a steep -200 price tag.

Michael Lorenzen Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-160)

Lorenzen has racked up six or more strikeouts in all four of his previous daytime starts against sub-.500 teams. I like him to hit that number again facing a whiff-happy Blue Jays lineup.

Adolis Garcia Over 0.5 Home Runs (+400)

Garcia has taken Toronto pitching deep in three of his last four as a ‘dog in this matchup. He’s got some serious pop and 4-to-1 odds are too good to pass up.

Jays vs Rangers Injury Report

The big injury news in this one belongs to Texas. Promising young outfielder Evan Carter remains out with a back issue and won’t resume baseball activities until visiting with a specialist.

Third baseman Josh Jung, who was expected to make a major impact this season, just started a rehab assignment as he works his way back from wrist surgery.

The Blue Jays are relatively healthy, but they did make a move on Friday, trading reliever Yimi Garcia to Seattle for a pair of minor-league prospects.
