AFC: Ashanti, the fans, a failed mic and a beautiful moment

Old school R&B fans were given a treat on Sunday, as Ashanti gave an exquisite rendition of the United States National Anthem, before the AFC Championship game between Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals. Even before the Grammy Award winning singer took the stage, the atmosphere inside of Arrowhead Stadium – one of the loudest arenas in the NFL – was absolutely intense. Then she took to the stage and with microphone in hand, she began to sing. The beauty of her take on the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ was something to witness, but due to a faulty microphone was also punctuated with gaps of silence. Yet there was no silence because in what turned out to be a moment that immediately went viral on social media, the fans present – every last one of them – proceeded to sing the anthem until the microphone kicked in once again. A beautiful moment for those present as well as those watching at home.
